Specialized Trauma Therapy for First Responders

OVER TWO DECADES OF EXPERIENCE IN CRITICAL INCIDENT SUPPORT

Over the last 10 years, I have focussed my professional development on receiving advanced training in the treatment of trauma.  I have a particular interest in supporting clients with attachment disruptions and first responders.

I am very familiar with the unique needs of First Responders, having worked in a hospital Emergency Room for over 20 years and being the Clinical Director and Mental Health Lead for the York Region Critical Incident Stress Management team.

I have led many critical incident debriefs both in hospital and within our community. I am acutely aware of how the stress of being a first responder can impact both one’s personal and professional life.

Therapy provides a comprehensive and supportive approach to helping individuals heal and regain their psychological and emotional wellbeing.

Through various therapeutic modalities and techniques, individuals can process their experiences, reduce distress, rebuild their identity and sense of purpose, and develop effective coping strategies.

By addressing these stressors in a safe and structured environment, therapy helps individuals heal and regain their psychological and emotional well-being.

Paramedic

Daily cumulative exposure to traumatic situations can place first responders at a higher risk of developing mental health issues.

Being proactive and getting support from a trained professional can help avoid serious mental health difficulties.

Teens:

The adolescent years are a period of significant change. Developmentally you are trying to figure out who you are and what you stand for; academically you are trying to prepare for higher education and future jobs, all while trying to balance the sometimes, competing expectations of your friends, teachers, and family. While it is an exciting time, transitioning to adulthood can also be a significant source of stress, confusion, and emotional turmoil. If working with me, I will support you in working through some of your struggles in a way that will make this transition easier for you.

Adults:

By the time we reach adulthood, we hope we have somethings figured out. We get to a place where our sense of self may be clearer. But as we know, life always brings us some complexities. Navigating intimate and social relationships are complex. The pressure of career changes, unexpected losses, parenting, changes in our health, marital struggles and/or aging
parents bring on new role expectations and sometimes additional strain.

By offering a safe space for exploration, skill development, and emotional support, I will help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, leading to better self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth.
